FAQ

You should position your JangleBox first in your signal chain — plug your guitar into the JangleBox input jack — and daisy chain additional pedals from there.

This allows you to take greatest advantage of the pedal's true bypass on/off switch. You'll also notice that compression will diminish the farther away you move your JangleBox in your signal chain.

Compression is our main thing, the way other manufacturers make, for instance, five or six overdrive/distortion pedals. We offer different compressors to meet the needs of different guitar players.

Go here for a comparison of JangleBox pedals and to evaluate which one will work best for your needs.

Yes, excepting the Acousticomp which is designed to enhance your acoustic guitar's natural sustain, resonance and aural contours. See here.

Our other JangleBox compressors’ most distinguishing characteristics are that they’re voiced a bit brighter than many conventional compressors, and all (except the JB3) have a Treble Boost feature which allows you to capture the bright, ringing chime and sustain of the Beatles, Byrds, and Tom Petty, as well as jangle pop, Americana, and roots-styled artists that employ that distinctive sound. Our compressors also help guitarists avoid the dreaded “blanket-over-the-amp” dullness.

Because of our long association with 12-string guitar icon Roger McGuinn, as well as the style popularized by Tom Petty and other jangle pop, Americana, and roots-styled artists, our pedals are often considered the compressor of choice for Rickenbackers, Telecasters, Strats, Gretsch, and Danos — primarly single-coil guitars. And it's true that 12-string guitars will sound much more glorious with a JangleBox pedal than without.

But JangleBox pedals work terrifically with every kind of guitar, including 6-strings with humbuckers, as you can hear for yourself on Michael Lawrence's sound clips. Guitarists of every musical genre use JangleBox pedals.

Only the original, red-lettered JangleBox (2004-2012) had a pin-positive polarity power jack. The industry standard is pin-negative polarity. All current production JangleBox pedals have pin-negative polarity.

If you have a red-lettered JangleBox, you can use a pin-negative power adapter as long as you use a reverse polarity patch cable. Google "reverse polarity cable for guitar" to see a wide variety of available cables.

Every JangleBox comes with a 9V battery so you can begin playing it right out of the box. We don't make or sell power adapters.

Any 9V-to-12V, 100mA (or greater), 2.1mm x 5.5mm barrel, pin-negative power adapter will work fine with any JangleBox. (Except the original, red-lettered JangleBox. See question above). Make sure it’s a regulated power adapter. Most big box music stores carry a variety of different power adapters.

No. We don’t have the capacity for custom modifications; they’re too costly and time consuming for our small operation. Also, modifications create both warranty and aftermarket issues we'd rather avoid.

Usually around the Thanksgiving-to-Christmas holidays we have an online sale on one or two pedals. Our sales are brief in duration so as not to conflict too much with our dealers. Other sales are generally sporadic and not associated with holidays.

The best way to find out about our sales is to go to the Contact page and add your name to our mailing list. You’ll then be among the first to know about any sale.

Because we’re a small company, and the cost of our handmade pedals is so relatively high, we cannot offer our pedals at a discounted rate to professional guitarists and remain profitable. Probably half of our customers are professional guitarists.

If you buy a JangleBox pedal on our online store and decide to return it, contact us within five days of receiving it for a refund. We purposely restrict the refund timeframe to discourage those who just want to use a JangleBox for a gig or recording project. The pedal must be in the same condition as when we shipped it, and all packaging and inserts must also be returned.

There is a $20 restock fee for the J-Boost, JB Nano, or J-Gate; a $25 restock fee for the JangleBox and Byrds 50th Anniversary Tribute; and a $30 restock fee for the JB3, JBX, and JB-OB.

If you buy a pedal from an authorized dealer, you must talk to them about their refund policy. We obviously cannot offer refunds on pedals we don’t sell directly.

Our pedal warranty is one year — parts and labor. Contact us if you experience any problem — we want to be as responsive and accomodating as possible to our customers.

No. We do not sell used or refurbished JangleBox pedals. That's what reverb.com and other resale websites are for.

Our criteria for featuring professional musicians in our Artist section is simple: if their professional influence among other musicians will help sell JangleBox pedals; or, honestly, if we just like their music. Normally, we initiate the contact to musicians whose endorsement we seek.
